CNMI’s King-Hinds to chair APP conference
The Commonwealth Ports Authority’s Kimberlyn King-Hinds is set to chair her first Association of Pacific Ports conference as its recently elected president.
King-Hinds left the CNMI last Friday to travel to San Diego, California for the 107th annual APP conference where she will serve as the conference’s chair for the first time.
In an interview before her departure, King-Hinds said she is honored and excited for this new opportunity not only to represent the CNMI, but to bring back knowledge that can be adopted by CPA to help weather out this pandemic.
“It’s an honor to represent CPA and the CNMI and I’m excited about the opportunity to see and explore what other ports are doing and how they are overcoming challenges related to the pandemic. I expect to learn and to build bridges in terms of relationships with folks who are in the industry and hopefully draw upon the knowledge to make improvements,” she said.

She is a bit nervous but is determined to do her best for the CNMI. “If I’m being honest, I’m also a little nervous. This is the first meeting I will be chairing as president of a regional association of ports from Canada to San Diego and as far west as Taiwan. In the back of my head, I’m always asking myself, ‘What is a girl from Tinian doing here,’ but I love the CNMI and I want to do the best and give the best of myself to our community and I’m grateful to be able to do that,” she said.
According to a press release from APP back in August, King-Hinds took on the role following Ian Marr from the Port of Nanaimo.
“As chair of the CPA board of directors, King-Hinds has had a distinguished career balancing the practice of law in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and serving the public in various capacities. Currently in private practice addressing areas of family law, probate law and general civil litigation, King-Hinds is also currently the conflict counsel for the NMI Settlement Fund and legal counsel for the Tinian Mayor’s Office. King-Hinds also currently devotes numerous hours serving the people of the CNMI on various government advisory boards and non-profit organizations,” APP said.
