Mini Games golf team announced tomorrow

The CNMI National Golf Team for the 2022 Northern Marianas Mini Games will be announced tomorrow immediately following the final qualifier organized by the Commonwealth Federation of Golf Associations at the Coral Ocean Resort.

The national team will be made up of two men’s players, two junior men’s players, two women’s players, and two junior women’s players.

Based on results of the first four qualifiers, Harry Nakamura is leading in the men’s division with a two-round score of 152. He’s followed by J.J. Atalig with a 154. Joe Sasamoto is at third with a 155, while, Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho and Peter “Dung” Tenorio are tied in fourth place at 156.

In the women’s, Yuko Togawa currently leads with a score of 176, followed by Nirimai Koebel and Hyun Son with 182 and 183, respectively.

In the men’s juniors, Zhi Li is heads and shoulders above the field with a 161 with Joshua Atalig running second at 174. Zhimin Jin is holding the fort in the women’s juniors with her 172, followed by Soarin Oh’s 225.

CFoGA earlier said that the selection of the national team will based on the two lowest scores plus the score in tomorrow’s final tryout, where all vying for spots for the Mini Games will have to walk the course and can’t use golf carts.

The eight-person national golf team for next year’s Mini Games will be presented during the awards banquet for the Black Jack Golf Tournament that will be held at the same time as the final qualifier. Entry fee for the one-day tournament is $100 and all the proceeds will benefit the CNMI National Golf Team.
