Lady Manta Rays 2 finally win; playoffs start today

Saipan Southern High School 2 finally got itself in the win column in the last day of the regular season of the NMIVA-PSS Interscholastic Girls High School Volleyball League 2021-2022 last Tuesday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
The Lady Manta Rays 2 outlasted Mt. Carmel School 2 in three tightly-fought sets, 25-27, 25-22, 15-11. Despite the win though, the lasses of Shawn Davis still wound up last in the team standings at 1-10 and will have a David vs. Goliath matchup with undefeated Grace Christian Academy 1 in the playoffs that start today.
SSHS 2 team is made up of Mai J. S. Peters, Angelina A. Mejia, Bianca H. Zapanta, Chelsea R. Cruz, Benicia I. Sablan, Diviane N. D. Tudela, Catherine Anua, Alyssa A. Alegre, Sunshine S. R. Sablan, Judy Andebor, Briettajayne Mendiola, and Zoey Magofna.
And speaking of the Lady Eagles 1, they completed an undefeated 11-0 season after making short work of Marianas High School 3 in the third game, 25-10, 25-5. MHS 3 finished with a 4-7 card and drew No. 6 seed GCA 2.
In the first game, Kagman High School upped its record to 3-8 after upsetting Mt. Carmel School 3, 25-22, 25-18. KHS will play MCS 1, while MCS 3 will take on automatic No. 8 seed Rota High School in the playoffs.
MHS 1 bounced back nicely from its lone loss of the season against GCA 1 last Saturday after beating MCS 2 and sister team MHS 2. The Lady Dolphins 1 beat the Lady Knights 2, 25-16, 25-10, then defeated upset-conscious Lady Dolphins 2, 25-12, 18-25, 15-9 to finish with a 10-1 record. The Lady Dolphins 1 will square off against Saipan International School 2 today, while the 2-9 MCS 2 will play 9-2 SIS 1.
MHS 2 (7-4) earlier dealt SSHS 2 its 10th loss with a 25-12, 25-16 victory. MHS 2 will square off against SSHS 1 today. The latter dropped its seventh loss in 11 games after being downed by SIS 1, 25-20, 25-20. The other playoff matchup today will pit automatic No. 7 seed Tinian High School 1 against automatic No. 10 seed and sister team THS 2.
All the matches in the playoffs are best-of-three affairs with postseason play and the championships spilling over to tomorrow, Oct. 15.
