The Marianas Writers Movement wants to focus attention on the stories of the people of the Marianas this month, October, in recognition of Humanities Month and is sponsoring a student essay contest on the topic, “Stories Matter” and the submissions are in. Nearly 80 students from high schools submitted their essays supporting the conclusion that stories matter—to share culture, to entertain us, and to connect us together.

Marianas Writers Movement will award prizes to five randomly selected student essayists at its October writing workshop. We also want to encourage people to come to the workshop. If you want to write short stories, novels, memoirs, family histories, poems or comics or graphic novels, we can help. Don’t wait. Write with us. We’ll also be having write-ins during November, National Novel Writing Month.

Find out more at https://MarianasWritersMovement.org. Read the students’ essays, and you’ll understand why your stories matter. (PR)
