The first general membership meeting of 2021 for the Pacific Asia Travel Association Micronesia Chapter will be held on Oct. 15, 2021, at 9am Chamorro Standard Time. The meeting will be conducted virtually via Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85318782820?pwd=YVhTMWVOb3FtQ2Q1UDZ1WGVEQ25qZz09.

The meeting agenda will include updates from tourism offices of Palau, Yap, the CNMI, Guam, Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kosrae, and the Marshall Islands.

Later that day, the chapter will convene its “Pearls of Wisdom” Forum at 1:30pm Chamorro Standard Time. Three of PATA Micronesia’s member islands—the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, Guam and the Republic of Palau—will share their respective COVID-safe and travel-safe programs and strategies to help safeguard their residents and to provide incentives to bring visitors back.

Following the panel presentations, the forum’s keynote, Dr. Fred R. Schumann, will present Strategies to Rebuild Tourism for the Future in Micronesia: Capitalizing on New Opportunities. A professor of Global Resources Management in the School of Business and Public Administration at the University of Guam, Schumann’s keynote will focus on identifying unique destination attractions, products, and services with a fresh, new perspective.

PATA is a membership association acting as a catalyst for the responsible development of the Asia Pacific travel and tourism industry. The PATA Micronesia Chapter consists of members from the Micronesia region working directly in the tourism industry, including national and state tourism offices.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, in partnership with PATA Micronesia’s private and public-sector members, the organization strove to enhance the sustainable growth, value and quality of travel and tourism to, from, and within the region. Due to this global crisis, the chapter’s board and committees have only managed to meet virtually all throughout the year but continue to promote the destination online at www.micronesiatour.com and its various social media platforms.
