Kagman High School will be hosting the fourth and supposedly final PSS/NMA Cross Country Qualifier at Saipan Vegas tomorrow, Oct. 2, behind the hotel at Saipan Vegas.
Northern Marianas Athletics distance running coach and cross country meet director Ron Snyder said after the third PSS/NMA Cross Country Qualifier was postponed last week due to the threat of Tropical Depression 20W, it’s nice that it didn’t take too long for the next installment of the event to be back again.
“We are excited that we are once again able to partner with Saipan Vegas to offer our student athletes a chance to run on this magnificent course. This week is open to all athletes and they will have the opportunity to preview the championship course before the Oct. 9 championship meet which is limited to the Top 6 runners from each school in each category,” he said.
Like the previous editions of the PSS/NMA Cross Country Qualifier, tomorrow’s race will have three divisions—the 1-mile 12U for elementary students, the 2-mile 14U for middle school students, and the 5-kilomterer 18U for high school students. The 12U division starts at 6:30am and the 14U and the 18U will have a joint start time at 6:50am.
NMA has characterized tomorrow’s cross country qualifier as a fast, manicured course looping through fairways and next to putting greens, offering easy cross country and off-road running. It also has slight hills, paved and grass paths that are suitable for spikes if you remain off the paved paths.
The Public School System has partnered with Northern Marianas Athletics, the governing body of athletics in the CNMI, to organize track and field as well as cross country events in the 2021-22 school year.
Registration for the third PSS/NMA Cross Country Qualifier can be accessed via the PSS Shared Drive.
