Saipan Southern High School 1 finally won a game after beating Mount Carmel School 2 in the NMIVA-PSS Interscholastic Girls High School Volleyball League 2021-2022 season’s makeup matches last Monday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

It was a rare Monday schedule for NMIVA’s 6×6 high school volleyball league after Tropical Depression 20W cancelled games last Thursday. The Lady Manta Rays 1 lifted itself out of the cellar after triumphing over the Lady Knights 2 in tight fashion, 25-21, 25-23. It was the first win in four games for SSHS 1, while MCS 2 fell to 2-3.

SSHS 1 is coached by Shawn Davis and her players are Brandie A. Matsumoto, Miley J. A. Salas, Jackilynn V. G. Sanchez, Mayvaleen A. Tesero, Lana A. Sunderland, Jasmine C. John, Jasmine K. M. Saluta, Yasmeen T. Younis, Tsuyako Omar, Nicole Villagomez, Hazel Efraim, and Casey C. Cruz.

In other results, Grace Christian Academy 1 continued its run toward a perfect season following a tough three-setter against sister team GCA 2. The Lady Eagles 1 probably underestimated GCA 2 in the second set, as they lost 25-14 after dominating the first set, 25-6. They stopped messing around in the rubber set, quickly disposing of their in-campus rivals, 15-3, to raise their record to 6-0. GCA 2 now sports a 3-2 record.

Saipan International School 1 improved to 5-1 following a 28-26, 25-17 hard-fought victory over MCS 1. The Lady Knights 1 are now 3-2. Other results in Monday’s makeup games saw 4-1 MCS 3 get the better of 0-5 SSHS 3, 24-26, 25-21, 15-4; 3-2 MHS 2 beat 1-5 Kagman High School, 25-21, 25-22; and MHS 3 score its second win after a 25-20, 25-23 victory over winless SIS 2.

The NMIVA-PSS Interscholastic Girls High School Volleyball League 2021-2022 season continued yesterday with SIS 2 taking on GCA 2 and MHS 1 squaring off against MCS 3 in the 4:30pm schedule. The 5:30pm second games then features SSHS 2 vs SSHS 1 and GCA 1 vs MHS 2. The final matches then pitted MCS 3 against SIS 1 and MCS 1 challenging MHS 3.
