GCA, FMS race to 3-0 record in middle school caging

Grace Christian Academy and Francisco M. Sablan Middle School are currently leading the IT&E Interscholastic Girls Middle School Basketball League team standings after each registering their third straight victory last Friday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
The Lady Eagles swept all two of their games last Friday, first nipping Dandan Middle School, 5-4, before blasting Saipan Community School, 12-4, as the Lady Tsunamis conceded the game with time remaining due to injury to one of their players.
In the game against DMS, power-playing Azriel Fatialofa led GCA with 5 points. She also top-scored for the team in their route of SCS with 6 points. It was the first loss in three games for SCS.
FMS, meanwhile, kept pace with GCA with its third straight win following its heart-pounding 8-7 overtime win over DMS in the third game. FMS led at the half, 4-2, but DMS managed to tie the game after regulation, 6-6. In extra time, Priscilla Tomokane’s basket proved to be the final score to give the San Antonio school the win. FMS was led by the 4 points of Tiana Mendiola with Tomakane back-stopping her with 3 markers. DMS absorbed its second loss in three starts.
In the final game of the day, Mount Carmel School edged Tanapag Middle School, 8-6, to level is win-loss card to 1-1. Mya Pangelinan paced MCS with 6 points, while the 4 points of Alana Camacho led the now 0-2 Tatagas with 4 markers.
Middle school girls caging resumes tomorrow with TMS taking on Chacha Oceanview and Hopwood Middle School 1 challenging sister team Hopwood 2 in the 4:30pm games. The 5:15pm matches will then have SCS squaring off against Dandan and MCS testing the mettle of GCA. The 6pm schedule will then have GCA immediately suit up against TMS and Dandan suiting up against Hopwood 2.
