The eight-month Tasi to Table program for students on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota is set to begin this October.

In a Sept. 8 newsletter, Tasi to Table—a program that seeks to instill the love of fishing and the sea among the youth while also allowing participants to earn high school credits—announced that advisers from all of the CNMI’s public schools will soon meet with TTT to finalize what the organization has planned for the 2021-2022 Public School System school year.

TTT advisers from Marianas High School, Saipan Southern High School, Kagman High School, Da’ok Academy, Tinian Jr/Sr High School, and Rita H. Inos Jr/Sr High School will soon be recruiting students during school club fairs. Participants will be exposed to lessons in sustainable fishing practices, boating safety, fishing rod and reel maintenance, and other fishing-related topics of interest.

Last school year, TTT had an eight-month program at participating schools on Saipan, and launched four-month pilot programs on Tinian and Rota. This year, all students on the three islands will be participating in fully-fledged eight-month programs.

Also in the newsletter, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, an avid fisherman himself, lauded TTT. “This program has proven itself time and time again. I have witnessed several activities with TTT and I am in support as it is a great program for our CNMI youth. If we can get even one of the students to pursue a career in what TTT offers, it is a success and we hope that we can get students up north for an experience of a lifetime,” said Torres, referring to the largely uninhabited Northern Islands of the CNMI, which boast fertile fishing grounds.
