Santos is Fil-Taga August Ace

Ronnie Santos topped the Fil-Taga Golfers Association Ace of the Month Tournament held last Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Coral Ocean Point Golf Course in Obyan.
The 59-year-old golfer fired a net 68 to win the monthly championship. He started out strong with a gross of 4-over 40 in the first nine holes before shooting an 8-over 44 in the back nine. He wound up with a gross of 12-over 84, which minus his 16 handicap, gave him the net score to beat for the August ace.
The Taytay, Rizal in the Philippines native, who has been playing golf for 15 years, said he won the tournament last Saturday because his swing was working fairly well despite the strong winds.
Tony Cabrera finished second with a net score of 73 built around a 46-47 in the front and back nines for a gross of 95. The 22-handicapper actually finished tied with Dan Ganacias but beat the latter in a scorecard tiebreak. Ganacias scored his net 73 on a 40 in the first nine holes before firing a 43 in the back nine for a gross of 83.
Lito Mendoza (net 79), Ed Varias (net 80), Ruben Avendaño (net 82), Jess Yumul (net 85), Bert Suda (gross 95), and Father Albert Pellazar (gross 105) also took part in the monthly tournament of Fil-Taga.
With the win in the August Ace, Santos joins Henry Bautista (January), Dan Ganacias (February), Eli Buenaventura (March), Cabrera (April), William Retardo (May), Mendoza (June), and Avendaño (July) for the yearend Fil-Taga Ace Tournament.
In the par 3 competition, Avendaño was without peer in holes No. 3 and 12, Varias beat all comers in hole No. 7, and Santos won in hole No. 14.
