The Saipan Fitbeat Lions Club held a joint celebration last Friday, celebrating both the club’s official recognition as a Lions Club and its induction of new officers for the 2021-2022 Lion Year. Notable guests last Friday included Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, first lady Diann Torres, Lions Club International District 204 Gov. Saturnino “Atoy” Banting, and Philippine honorary consul Glicerio “Eli” Arago. Diann Torres, who was reportedly the first to bring “Fitbeat” to Saipan, was the event’s keynote speaker.
In a phone call with him yesterday, Ambet Flores, who is the club’s vice president and was the chairman of the committee that planned last Friday’s event, said the Saipan Fitbeat Lions Club was chartered and officially recognized as an official Lions Club last year, but the celebration was pushed to last Friday as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the club having planned many events last year. Flores said the event had almost 140 guests, and that he was very pleased with how the event went.
“It was a joyful event. We got off a little bit from the traditional presentation of all the members and officers. …Traditionally, the presentation is solemn and silent [but] we were loud. …We had a lot of prizes that we gave away, and all of the attendees were, of course, happy with that. For me as VP, I should say it was a huge success,” said Flores.
