The Rotary Club of Saipan hopes to continue increasing its number of women members moving forward, said club president Ivan Ilmov on Tuesday.

Further motivating this goal is the Rotary Club International’s theme for the 2021-2022 Rotary year, “Serve to Change Lives,” with the goal to get more women involved with Rotary Clubs globally.

Ilmov said the club has always been and will remain inclusive. “We are for [equality] for everybody—the Rotary Club of Saipan does not have any [preferences] for religion, politics, or any other preference. We are open for all members, and we are trying to make it equal for our women [members] also,” said Ilmov.

When asked how the club will boost women membership, Ilmov said the club’s approach for the past few years has been from the inside-outward, first reaching out to the spouses of Rotarians and followed by others within a Rotarian’s circle. “You always start with your family, your village, your town, that’s how it goes. Bringing in people who we know is a top priority, [because it’s important] you bring somebody who will be able to dedicate their time, knowledge, and passion,” said Ilmov.

Ilmov highlighted double past president Curtis Dancoe and his spouse, past president Sonya Dancoe, for their contributions to the club, and described them as the “initial” examples of this inside-outward approach.
