The CNMI, through Commonwealth Ports Authority chair Kimberlyn King-Hinds, has assumed the position of president of the Association of Pacific Ports, over 20 years since the CNMI last held the position.

According to King-Hinds, aside from it being an honor, taking on the role as president ultimately means improvements for CPA. “It’s just another opportunity to explore how CPA can continue to improve so as improve the lives of the people of the CNMI,” she said.

The last time the CNMI held the position, according to King-Hinds, was over 20 years ago with Antonio S. Camacho at the helm of CPA.

“Based on the bylaws, [presidency] rotates but CPA has not taken it in over 20 years,” she said.

King-Hinds said she is looking forward to the new role she will be taking on. “I’m looking forward to leading the APP and working with everyone to improve our port community through sharing knowledge and resources to benefit the communities we serve,” she said during the annual APP meeting last July 29.

Essentially, King-Hinds’ new role means she’ll be actively involved in advancing the mission of the organization, which is to promote efficiency and effectiveness in ports across the Pacific.

“The APP is a well-run organization because of its seasoned members, officers, and forward-thinking executive director, which makes the job of president akin to a designated facilitator of meetings and discussions about advancing the mission of the organization. APP is a trade and information association founded in 1913 promoting increased efficiency and effectiveness of the ports of the Pacific,” she said.

According to a press release from APP, King-Hinds took on the role following Ian Marr from the Port of Nanaimo.

“The Association of Pacific Ports is very pleased to welcome Kimberlyn King-Hinds as our newly elected President,” APP stated.

“As chair of the CPA board of directors, King-Hinds has had a distinguished career balancing the practice of law in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and serving the public in various capacities. Currently in private practice addressing areas of family law, probate law and general civil litigation, King-Hinds is also currently the conflict counsel for the NMI Settlement Fund and legal counsel for the Tinian Mayor’s Office. King-Hinds also currently devotes numerous hours serving the people of the CNMI on various government advisory boards and non-profit organizations,” APP added.
