The 16th Saipan & Northern Islands Municipal Council has acknowledged the immense loss of late representative Ivan Blanco and the enormous void he leaves behind, describing him as a well-respected, humble, affable, and gracious public servant.

“We are shocked with disbelief,” said Ana Demapan-Castro, municipal council chairperson, on behalf of her and her colleagues, vice chair Antonia M. Tudela, and member Danny Aquino.

Blanco suddenly passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021.

“Congressman Blanco personified a true statesman worthy of the admiration and respect of all of us—his elected colleagues—devoid of any party lines. His softspoken, enviable people-relations mannerism, no matter where he is at and which audience he is with, makes him an exceptional diplomat who brought leaders and people together not just here in the Marianas, but our broader Micronesia,” said Demapan-Castro. “Indeed, Rep. Blanco taught us all what a true, authentic leader is and shall be: servant-leader, acute listener, congenial and friendly, communicative, and hands-down humble and pleasant across and all around. He will be sorely missed now and for years to come.”

She said the council joins the entire leadership of the Commonwealth and its people in mourning the sudden, untimely passing of a great leader. “We lift our prayers of healing and utmost condolences to his lovely wife, Carmen, their children, their parents, family, and close loved ones during their time of grief and loss.” (PR)
