The Department of Public safety has shot down rumors circulating on social media that the person responsible for the fatal hit-and-run last week has turned themselves in, saying the incident remains under investigation.

According to Department of Public Safety spokesperson Adrian Pangelinan, as of Sunday, the individual believed to have hit a 20-year-old woman and left her lifeless on the side of the road in Marpi has yet to turn themselves in.

DPS continues to investigate the incident but, as of press time, there are still no suspects in the case and witnesses are encouraged to share any information on what happened that night. For those who want to remain anonymous, they can call 234-7272.

Meanwhile, videos have surfaced on social media of the victim just hours before she was found dead on the shoulder of Route 30 in Marpi.

The video showed the victim walking along the road in Marpi while her companions drove beside her and telling her to get back in the car. According to some of those companions, they were urging her to get into the vehicle but she refused to get in so they left her.

According to Saipan Tribune archives, DPS responded at around 9:52pm last Tuesday to a report about an unresponsive individual lying on the shoulder of Route 30 in Marpi just north of the former Marianas Resort

Saipan Tribune learned from a source that the one who called the police, who lives nearby, was driving home at around 9pm when he noticed a body along the road. The caller immediately stopped to help and called the police for assistance.

At the scene, police noticed tire marks near where the body was found.

The police report stated that Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services responders transported the female to the Commonwealth Healthcare Center where she was pronounced dead at 1am.

According to the report, the DFEMS officers at the scene saw multiple lacerations and deformities on the female’s body. In addition, the officers also noticed that she sustained multiple fractures and severe injuries to her head.
