MCS reinstates Scheduling Fair for juniors and seniors
Mount Carmel School will reinstate its annual Scheduling Fair for juniors and seniors on July 28, 2021, at the MCS Maturana Building.
On the day of the event, rising seniors will meet with MCS staff from 9am to 10am and juniors will meet from 2pm to 3pm. Students who will be off-island during the Scheduling Fair are expected to contact the school to select their classes for the new school year.
Mount Carmel School prides itself as a college-preparatory school and aims to provide students with the opportunity to sign up for classes as they would at any postsecondary institution. The school has made course descriptions available on the MCS website for students to review and consider before the upcoming event.
The courses available for selection to MCS juniors and seniors include advanced Japanese, algebra 2, AP calculus, AP computer science A, AP computer science principles, AP English, AP U.S. history, senior seminar, civics, creative writing, financial literacy, introduction to media and communications, precalculus, and U.S. History. These courses are separate from the regular required classes for juniors and seniors.
Acting MCS president Frances Taimanao said the Scheduling Fair is the first of many programs the school aims to bring back this upcoming school year. The event is also meant to “set the tone” for more student activities as many MCS students are choosing to receive their COVID-19 vaccine.
“We are working hard with the Governor’s COVID-19 Task Force and [Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.] to determine what programs and events can be reinstated for this upcoming school year,” said Taimanao. “Since the CNMI advanced to Level Green and updated safety recommendations from the [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] were published, we are determined to bring back traditions and activities while enforcing approved safety measures.”
Mount Carmel School shared school events, activities, and programs that will be reinstated includes, but are not limited to, outdoor physical education for all grade-levels, weekly mass celebrations, student spiritual retreat, Monday flag raising, Tuesday calisthenics, and all student clubs.
