The Amelia Earhart Memorial Association is once again inviting the public to the 124th birthday commemoration of aviatrix Amelia Earhart, who was born on July 24, 1897.

The association is hosting the birthday commemoration at the CNMI Museum on Saturday, July 24, 2021, from 9am to 12pm.

The association is celebrating Earhart’s birthday with various activities to sustain the effort of providing public education to the community.

“Our effort is not to draw conclusion with evidence. What is important is [throughout] history, only the people of Saipan have attested by testimonial that Earhart was last seen [on] Saipan. For this reason, the association is proud to build the Amelia Earhart Monument on Saipan and have been working tirelessly to solicit funds for the monument,” said the association in a statement.

“Every year that we do public education, more people are getting involved and we see their support. This year we have been going to the schools and presented to the students the history of Amelia Earhart,” the statement added.

Various activities and presentations will be held at the NMI Museum this Saturday, one by Fr. Michael of the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa, who will share his father’s story about Earhart. A poem composed by Marie SC. Castro will be read, and the Marianas High School Music and Art group will perform with their instructor, Gina Aguilar. There will also be a tour of the museum and refreshments will be served.

Entrance to the NMI Museum is free but everyone is being urged to practice social distancing and use face masks.

The association thanks Herman’s Modern Bakery for donating the birthday cake in last year’s event and to all who contributed to the success of last year’s event.

“For this year’s event, we are extending our appreciation to the CNMI Museum board of directors and Mr. Dan Aquino and staff, Mr. Glen Manglona of Marianas Agupa on his talk show last Saturday, and all of our media group, and to those individuals who have taken part in the planning and contributions of this year’s event,” the statement added.
