‘Family Fun Night’ today postponed due to weather

Due to heavy rain and flooding in the area near the San Vicente Youth Center, the CNMI Office of Youth Affairs announced on its Facebook page on Tuesday that its “Family Fun Night”— originally scheduled for today, Wednesday, from 5pm to 8pm—is postponed until further notice. The event was set to feature games, prizes throughout the evening, food vendors, and live entertainment for parents and their children alike to enjoy. OYA also promoted that the first 30 children to complete what it called its “event passport” would have received special prizes. (Joshua Santos)

NMC to host free info session on July 28

Northern Marianas College is informing all community members who are interested in advancing their careers and furthering their education to attend NMC’s free information session on Wednesday, July 28, 2021. In addition to the admission process, college personnel will talk about the new vaccination requirements for students taking in-person classes for the fall 2021 semester.

The info session will be held from 5:30pm to 6:30pm at NMC’s Olympio T. Borja Library in Building O. As part of NMC’s COVID-19 safety protocols, participants are asked to wear masks or face coverings when on campus.

Participants of the info session will qualify to have their application fee and their placement test fees waived for NMC’s upcoming fall 2021 semester—a savings of about $75.

The first day of classes will be on Aug. 16, 2021. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply now to register for courses and for financial aid. Currently, up to $6,495 is available in federal financial aid to qualified students.

Free FBI training on preparing for threats from IEDs, hazmat

TAMUNING, Guam—The Federal Bureau of Investigation is offering specialized training to provide advanced understanding of the hazards posed by improvised explosives and potentially dangerous chemicals.

The “Chemical Industry Outreach Workshop” is intended for both Guam and CNMI public safety officials, law enforcement partners and people who work in the chemical industry. This includes suppliers of pool chemicals, beauty supplies and home improvement materials.

The workshop will include a classroom presentation and an outdoor explosive demonstration on the effects of conventional and improvised explosives. The training will underscore the potential dangers of particular chemicals, both in the hands of terrorists as well as juvenile experimenters.

The one-day workshop will be offered on both Wednesday, Aug. 25, and Thursday, Aug. 26, in Mangilao.

There is no cost to attend, but there is limited seating. Those interested in attending should submit their name, workshop date preference, telephone number and email address, company/agency name and job title to Guam-Outreach@fbi.gov. (PR)
