Cars were backed up for miles early yesterday morning following a vehicular collision along Chalan Monsignor Guerrero in Chalan Kiya, going up As Terlaje Hill.

Around 8am yesterday morning, a white delivery truck and a silver van collided with one another while headed north along the highway. The accident caused a massive traffic jam with cars tailing each other more about a mile, according to multiple sources.

There was no immediate word on the status of both vehicles’ drivers and if there were any fatalities, although a video captured by a passing motorist showed medics preparing a gurney for use.

Saipan Tribune tried to reach out to both the Department of Public Safety and Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services for reports on the accident but both departments have yet to release an official statement as of press time.

Sources said the area was crawling with dozens of police and DFEMS first responders, who closed off nearly both northbound lanes, contributing to the traffic jam.

In the video that captured a snippet of the aftermath of the accident, Saipan Tribune observed the white truck had fallen into a nearby ditch, presumably due to the impact of the crash.

Meanwhile, a silver SUV was seen taking up two lanes with the front portion of the vehicle totaled. The driver’s side door was also completely torn off from the car.
