Plans for Koblerville NMTI facility still in infancy
The plan for a Northern Marianas Technical Institute facility in Koblerville is still in its early stages and is expected to take two to three years to complete.
NMTI interim chief executive officer Jodina Attao said Tuesday the project still needs to go through several steps before the trades school can formally send out requests for proposals to architecture and engineering firms.
The proposed Koblerville facility will be a 30,000-square-foot two-story building that will feature spaces for administrative offices, classrooms, and open areas for the hands-on portions of NMTI’s trades programs. The project will be funded through the $10.3 million grant the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration gave NMTI in February.
Attao said that NMTI has been coordinating with the CNMI Office of Planning and Development to secure a consultant who will help the trades school draft its design for the facility, conduct land surveys, and draft the terms and conditions of the future RFPs. Once the RFPs are sent out, NMTI will then determine which architecture and engineering firm will work on the construction project and when.
