New laws allot funds for Saipan projects, SHEFA, NI council

Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios, in his capacity as acting governor, signed last Friday three local laws that allocate a total of $2.15 million for various infrastructure projects and scholarships on Saipan and the Northern Islands.
The three newly-enacted local laws are:
– House Local Bill 22-3, D1, which appropriates $695,177.85 of the Earned Bond Interest Income collected for the Third Senatorial District that has been identified by the Commonwealth Development Authority for road improvements on Industrial Drive, completion of the Kalamendo Waterline Project and the Dotse Pl. Waterline Project, and water system improvements on Navy Hill Drive. This bill becomes Saipan Local Law 22-1.
– House Local Bill 22-7, which appropriates $1,446,000 from revenue collected pursuant to Saipan Local Law 11-2. A total of $1,200,000 is allocated to the Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance; $200,000 for the Saipan Mayor’s Office for field operations and the Saipan street naming project; and $46,000 for the Northern Islands Mayor’s Office operations. This bill becomes Saipan Local Law 22-2.
– House Local Bill 22-10, which re-appropriates lapsed funds amounting to $9,452 under Section 2(B)(5) of Saipan Local Law 21-5 for the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council. (PR)
