Mount Carmel School will serve as a vaccination site on July 9

The COVID-19 vaccine will be administered at Mount Carmel School’s Maturana Building this Friday, July 9, 2021, from 8am to 2pm. 
This is intended to make COVID-19 vaccines accessible for students, families, and community members prior to the start of the 2021-2022 school year, according to the Commonwealth Health Center Corp.

On the day of the event, the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine will be administered to eligible individuals. Information on the vaccine is available at www.vaccinatecnmi.com.

While this event is primarily meant to help eligible Mount Carmel School students receive their vaccine prior to the start of the new school year, families and community members can arrive as walk-in participants on the day of the event. A specific code is required to register for the Mount Carmel School location.

Students under the age of 18 are required to have a signed consent form by the child’s parent or guardian. The link to the consent form is available on www.vaccinatecnmi.com and the Mount Carmel School website, www.mountcarmelsaipan.com.

Walk-in appointments are accepted on the day of the event. To register, provide a valid government issued photo ID and an insurance card. However, insurance is not required.

Mount Carmel School’s acting president Frances Taimanao shared the importance of making the vaccine available, especially prior to the start of the new school year. “Our top priority at Mount Carmel School has always been safety. While we continue to adjust to the new normal, we see the impact this pandemic has made on student learning and wellness. As we continue to prioritize safety, we also need to move forward as a community, make vaccines accessible, and work towards reinstating normal school operations and events.”

Taimanao added that the voice of parents also played a crucial role in making MCS a vaccination site. “We issued a survey to our families with students in the seventh through 12th grades and many families selected that they would register their child if the school were to make vaccines available on-site.”

Taimanao explained why the early month of July is ideal to make the campus a vaccination site. “If students receive their vaccinations early this month, then they will have completed the vaccination process prior to the start of the new school year. If we can prove that at least 80% of our students in grades seventh through 12th are vaccinated, our leadership team can work with the Governor’s COVID-19 Task Force and CHCC to reasonably ease restrictions and keep students safe. Additionally, our team can continue to adjust and reinstate programs and events previously cancelled due to the pandemic.”
