LITERARY NOOK
Virtues and Vices
Sincere Sonnet Slices
“Use no hurtful deceit, think innocently and justly; and if you speak, speak accordingly.”
—B. Franklin
Please allow me to make myself perfectly clear
and speak from my heart with utmost sincerity
in this virtue’s direction I would like to steer
to try and give honesty some equal parity
of course there has to be levity and humor
hopefully a joke comes across with clarity
with no intent to harm or spread a rumor
but add to friendly conversation some hilarity
stay clear of argumentation laden with lies
become known as one who speaks with verity
learn to compromise and eat a few humble pies
be sincere and selfless when dispensing charity
speak to others with a clear head and sincere heart
you’ll be welcome coming in and when you depart.
Insincerity: Jokes Lies and Wise Guys
George Henry Lewes wrote “Insincerity is always
weakness, sincerity even in error is strength.”
certain wise guys suffer from mental obliqueness
jokers and liars are often insincere at length
says Chinese philosopher teacher Confucius,
“ Sincerity and truth are the basis of every virtue.”
insincerity flounders in the trivial realm of a doofus
drop insecurity, when you say something mean it
curtail use of both hyperbole and exaggeration
hear nasty lies? Be sincere about them to clean it
up. Then walk a sincere path out of the situation
tell those jokers to hit the road and talk straight
show those not answering a simple question
that insecurity strikes out and misses home plate
