16 named to M-League All-Star Selections

Division A Golden Boot winner Mark Esalan will join 15 other players on the M-League All-Star Selections that will challenge the NMI Men’s National Team’s pool members in an exhibition game this Sunday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

Esalan, who led the M-League Spring 2021 in goals scored with 12, is among the four TanHoldings Football Club players who made the selection. The three others are Jason Quimzon, Brandon Tenorio, and Martin Jambor, who will also serve as the All-Star crew’s coach. TanHoldings took the championship in Division A after finishing the double-round robin competition with an 11-1-2 win-draw-loss record.

Completing the M-League All-Star Selections are MP United FC’s Andrew Schafer, Allan Hinson, and Skyler Poon, Paire FC’s Ajani Burrell, Whit Altizer, Jeff Seo, and Eric Barajas, NMI Boys U18 National Team A’s Jeremiah Diaz, U18 B’s Jerald Aquino and Richard Steele, Kanoa’s Andreuw Omelau, and The One’s Xiong Zhe Li. MP United’s Norman Del Rosario is the team manager, while Eunsyu Hahn and Razeff Altamirano, also from MP United, NMI U18 B’s Oliver Fajardo, and TanHoldings’ Abel Thomas are on the reserved list.

The M-League All-Star Selections will square off against the Blue Ayuyus, who are preparing for an East Asian Football Federation-sanctioned tournament.

Meanwhile, the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association is organizing the M-League Summer Season 2021, which is tentatively set to kick off early next month. The competition is open to Divisions A and B and Masters. NMIFA is targeting eight teams for Division A and six for Division B with an 11 aside format for the two categories. Division A will be played in two 45-minute halves, while Division B will feature two 35-minute half match.

For the Masters, NMIFA is looking at four to six teams and format is 8 aside with games to be played in two 25-minute halves. Minimum age requirement for the Masters is 45 years old, while Division B players are also allowed to compete in this category.

Interested teams have until June 25 to sign up for the summer season.
