Colleagues paid tribute to long-time educator Richard Francis Waldo, who passed away last June 10 at the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. due to a heart attack.

“Mr. Waldo has always been a very humble, kind, and understanding [Public School System] employee. We [were] blessed to have him. I am blessed and grateful to have known him. …In very challenging moments with our funding, Mr. Waldo found solutions to make things happen for our PSS. He was calm, collected, and a problem-solver for the district,” said Jacqueline A. Quitugua, PSS’ senior director of Curriculum and Instruction.

Waldo taught for more than 30 years in the U.S. mainland, Guam, and the CNMI, holding his last teaching post at Kagman Elementary School for PSS’ Title One program. He was a former PSS chief financial officer and taught at the Northern Marianas College, Northern Marianas International School, Mt. Carmel School, Marianas High School, and Ladera International School.

Francisco M. Sablan Middle School principal Cherlyn Cabrera-Osung and Marianas High School P.E. teacher James Feger also had good words for their former colleague, remembering Waldo as a funny, kind, and generous co-worker. Oleai Elementary School principal Jasylene S. Parico recalled Waldo as great instructor in her administration and finance class.

Interment moved to June 22

Meanwhile, Waldo’s wife, Ednalyn, said that her husband’s internment has been moved from June 18 to June 22 at the Veteran’s Memorial Park in Marpi. A U.S. Air Force veteran, Waldo will receive military honors.

There will be viewing from 8am to 10am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Jude’s Parish in Koblerville.
