IPI repatriates more workers
Imperial Pacific International (CNMI) LLC continues to make arrangements to repatriate its remaining foreign workers, with the next batch set to depart the CNMI this Saturday.
In a status report filed with the U.S District Court for the NMI, IPI lawyer Michael Dotts said all remaining Taiwanese workers have been booked and are scheduled to leave this Saturday, June 19, and next Monday, June 21.
Dotts told the court that IPI’s Filipino workers have expressed an interest in leaving too. They have all been booked for a July-August departure date.
Meanwhile, IPI’s Chinese workers are still waiting for the Chinese Embassy to approve flights back to China from Saipan. Currently, the tentative dates for travel back to China are mid- to late-July.
Aside from repatriation, Dotts also reported that payroll was timely distributed on Friday, June 4, 2021, without issue. IPI’s next payroll is set to be distributed on June 18.
Construction work at the Imperial Pacific Resort in Garapan remains suspended as ordered by the court.
IPI has also served a second subpoena to the Bank of Guam last June 8, to obtain cashed checks for payroll period ending on Jan. 15, 2021.
Dotts said that once those checks are produced, IPI and the Department of Labor should be able to resolve the issue over how much is still owed to IPI employees.
Aside from IPI matters, Dotts reported that he will be travelling starting on June 21 and, depending on quarantine requirements when he returns in July, he may be out of his office until July 20, 2021. During this time, Dotts said, he will continue to file weekly reports but, as he will be off island when finalizing them, it is possible that some extensions may be requested.
