Saipan’s Filipino community will celebrate the Philippines’ 123rd Independence Day tomorrow, June 12, with a flag-raising ceremony and other proceedings at Marianas High School at 7:30am.

According to Philippine honorary consul to CNMI Glicerio “Eli” Arago, he expects to see many members of the Filipino community at MHS on that day.

The event will have Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (Ind-MP), and TanHoldings CEO Jerry Tan as guests.

Part of the celebration will be the signing of a proclamation of a CNMI-Republic of the Philippines Friendship, which Torres will sign.

United Filipino Organization president Marcelo Masilungan will also speak.

When asked for comments and his hopes for this Saturday, Arago sympathizes with his countrymen battling the hardships brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, and encourages the CNMI’s Filipino community to help one another. Arago also hopes that all Filipinos keep the “Bayanihan spirit” alive this weekend, referring to a communal spirit of unity and helping others.
