Happy Pride Month

Pride Month is a time for us to get together and celebrate how far we’ve come. It is a time for us to recommit to the hard work that still must be done to achieve equality. This month, we take the time to reflect on the progress we’ve made while celebrating those who have made this possible. Since Stonewall, we have fought hard to give our community the right to marry, to start families, fight discrimination and hate speech and hate crimes and allow queer people to simply exist.

Even though we’ve come such a long way, realistically we have a long way to go. People still suffer from systemic and institutionalized discrimination, bullying, violence, abuse and hatred. We must take every opportunity to amplify the voices that urgently need our support, especially our black, brown, Asian and Pacific Islander, indigenous, and transgender communities.

It is to those who are suffering in silence, most importantly our youth, that I dedicate Pride Moth to. May it serve as a beacon of hope that, one day very soon, we will live in a society where one can simply exist, free from labels, discrimination, suffering and hatred.
