Gov. Ralph DLG Torres said Friday that an engineer has already been hired for the Infrastructure and Recovery Program, the newly created office that will handle nearly a billion dollars’ worth of projects in the CNMI.

In his answer to a request for an update on the Infrastructure and Recovery Program during a radio news briefing, Torres also disclosed that they are bringing back local scholarship recipients in technical professions who are in the U.S. mainland to work with the new office.

The governor said they’re getting an office space for IRP, which is opening up soon.

He said their first engineer will start to work this June 7 or 8.

No other information were provided about the engineer.

Torres said he has been working with the scholarship program for their recipients to come back to Saipan and work on those needed technical professions.

The governor said it’s an open invitation to those that fall into the category of engineers, biology, environmental planner, archaeologist, lawyers, and fish and wildlife.

“So there are different positions that are needed. And I hope that we can fill these positions in the next month or so,” Torres said.

The governor appointed former Department of Public Lands secretary Marianne Concepcion-Teregeyo to be the IRP coordinator.

He earlier stated that the IRP will assist the Disaster Relief-Public Assistance and hazard mitigation projects and will move forward projects such as with the Northern Marianas College, the Public School System, Commonwealth Healthcare Corp., Commonwealth Utilities Corp., and some road projects.
