Search is on for basketball national team coaches

The Northern Mariana Islands Basketball Federation will start its search for coaches for the men’s and women’s national squads that will be competing in the 2022 Micronesian Games in the Marshall Islands with the launching of its national team program this Saturday.
Coaches who aspire to call the shots for the CNMI national teams are required to attend the meet-and- greet session of the NMIBF on June 5 at 7:30am and the open tryouts, beginning on June 8 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium. At this weekend’s event, coaches will be briefed with the national team program and the criteria for selection for the national team coaches.
“We are inviting coaches to join our greet and meet event this Saturday and be part of our national team program. We have a lot of talented players out there that will need the guidance of coaches to maximize their full potential and be able to represent well the CNMI in the 2022 Micronesian Games and future regional tournaments,” NMIBF president James Lee said.
“Coaches will play a critical role in the success of our national program and the NMIBF knows we have people who are committed and have the ability to take on this big challenge,” the NMIBF head added.
NMIBF is looking for FIBA Level 2 certified coaches for the national head coach positions and Level 1 for assistant coaches. The federation, through development director Elias Rangamar, will work with FIBA Oceania in providing certification courses for interested coaches. Rangamar will also assist coaches that will be attending the Phase 1 and 2 of the national team training program, while the selection will be announced during the last week of October. Head coaches will then take the lead in training their respective teams for the phases 3 to 5 of the program.
