The Office of the Saipan Mayor donated over 25 pairs of Nike sneakers to Karidat Social Services last Friday, thanks to the help of Nike employees who work at the company’s headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon.

Karidat executive director Lauri Ogumoro and 2021 Miss Marianas Savannah Lyn Delos Santos joined Mayor David M. Apatang at the turnover ceremony at the Saipan Mayor’s Office.

It was learned at the ceremony that Nike employee Carisa Rudolf worked with a friend to put together the box of Nike sneakers and shipped the donation to the Saipan Mayor’s Office, which then donated the shoes to Karidat.

“I am sure this wonderful donation would bring everlasting smiles on many young faces that we regularly see as part of our charitable missionm,” said Ogumoro.

“The act of giving, although it sounds very simple, actually has a lasting effect on the recipient, and that is our primary work as caring citizens of this very beautiful island that we call home,” said Delos Santos, who is also Karidat’s newest human trafficking outreach specialist in addition to being this year’s Miss Marianas.

Apatang thanked Saipan’s friends at Nike HQ, and welcomed them to visit the island. “I want to thank our friend in Beaverton who coordinated with Ms. Rudolf in getting the donation shipped to Saipan. …I invite Ms. Rudolf and her friend to visit Saipan soon, and meet some of the precious young kids that would be getting a new pair of Nike sports shoes,” said Apatang.

The donation of a box of sneakers was an initiative of Nike employees.
