Karidat Social Services to launch food pantry program
Karidat Social Services will be launching its CDBG Food Pantry Program on June 1, 2021, thanks to the assistance of the Northern Marianas Housing Corp. through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The total allocation awarded to Karidat is $405,268.50—$327,514.80 for the project and no more than $77,753.70 for planning and administrative costs. The food pantry program was made to prepare, prevent, and respond to the coronavirus pandemic and to supplement and expand ongoing efforts to procure food and infection control supplies in the CNMI.
The project will provide assistance to eligible families on a first-come, first-serve basis as a one-time-only assistance for the duration of the project.
Applications can be picked up at the Karidat Social Services window from Monday through Friday, from 8am to 4pm or downloaded online at www.karidat.com. Completed applications can be submitted at the Karidat Social Services window or emailed to foodpantry@karidat.org.
Completed applications and certification forms will be reviewed, and “unmet need” will be determined by using the official USDA Food Plans (cost of food per family – value of food assistance provided (if any) = unmet need.) Maximum assistance amounts up to $100 food and infection control supplies per person and up to $400 food and infection control supplies per family. Official USDA food plan calculation is a requirement to determine eligible families.
Eligible families will be assigned a pick-up date of food/supplies. Families deemed ineligible for the assistance will be notified by Karidat.
For inquiries, contact the main office at 234-5248 or 234-6981, Monday through Friday, from 8am to 4pm. (PR)
