Weightlifting names coaches for Mini Games

CNMI Weightlifting has appointed David Barnhouse and Antonette Labausa as its national coaches for the upcoming Pacific Mini Games that the CNMI is set to host on June 2022.
According to CNMI Weightlifting president John Davis, Barnhouse and Labausa were selected as the national coaches for their extensive experience in weightlifting both nationally and internationally. In addition, they both are certified coaches with USA Weightlifting.
“CNMI Weightlifting is pleased to announce the selection of national coaches David Barnhouse and Antonette Labausa. Both Barnhouse and Labausa are experienced athletes, as well as coaches with certification from USA Weightlifting, the national governing body overseeing the sport of weightlifting in the United States,” said Davis.
The pair will serve in these positions until December 2022.
In a short interview with Barnhouse, the undefeated champion in the Northern Marianas Cup Weightlifting Tournament, he said that he is excited for the new responsibility that was bestowed upon him.

Saipan Tribune tried to reach out to Labausa but as of 6pm press time, she had yet to respond.
With the announcement of the national coaches, the selection process for the national team will commence immediately.
Anyone interested in competing in weightlifting for the CNMI should contact Barnhouse or Labausa as soon as possible.
Everyone interested in competing in weightlifting at the Pacific Mini Games must be a member in good standing with CNMI Weightlifting, must compete in at least two local level competitions, must be at least 15 years old, must produce a passport and/or proof of residency at the time of weigh-in at the Pacific Mini Games, and must be selected to the national team.

The Pacific Mini Games 2022 in the Northern Marianas will hold an official launch ceremony on June 17, 2021, to begin the one-year countdown to the Games. It is expected to draw up over 1,000 athletes from across the Pacific.
The ceremony will be led by Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and will be held at 4:30pm at the Oleai Sports Complex, the venue for several of the events.
