Traditional Chinese spiritual organization Falun Dafa honored the religious movement’s founder, Li Hongzhi, in a ceremony last May 20 that was part of the group’s monthlong celebration.

Weimin Li, president of Falun Dafa Association Saipan, was joined at the ceremony by Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang, Youki Kishimoto from the Saipan Mayor’s Office, and other Falun Dafa practitioners.

At the ceremony, a Falun Dafa practitioner thanked Apatang and the people of Saipan for their continued support of the organization. “We express our heartfelt thanks to Mr. Mayor and [the] Saipan people. Your support of Falun Dafa demonstrates the recognition and support of our…residents’ universal values. …Saipan…will sure[ly] become better and more harmonious. … [Apatang and the] Saipan people respect human rights, beliefs, and demonstrate the power of courage and justice. Your actions are very precious, and [we] sincerely thank you again!”

Li then gave Apatang a book titled The Minghui Report: The 20-Year Persecution of Falun Gong in China as a gift. The book details the decades of persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners in China and the Chinese government’s alleged frequent cover-ups of their actions. The book received the Benjamin Franklin Award on May 14, an honor bestowed to publications by the Independent Book Publishers Association.

The ceremony was part of the group’s month long celebration of Falun Dafa, which saw motorcade parades and other events before, during, and after Falun Dafa Day on May 13.
