5 more COVID-19 cases
The CNMI saw its total number of COVID-19 cases rise to 181 last Saturday after five arriving travelers tested positive, according to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.
The individuals were identified by travel screening and confirmed diagnosis through fifth day testing and testing on arrival last May 20. These cases did not report any COVID-19 vaccination. CHCC said the individuals have been moved to the designated isolation area at the Kanoa Alternate Care Site for close monitoring.
The CHCC Communicable Disease Investigation/Inspection team has already initiated contact tracing for the most immediate contacts of the new confirmed cases, including passengers on the same flight.
Out of the 181 total COVID-19 cases, CHCC said 145 were identified by travel screening while 36 were local transmissions—11 from community-based tracing and 16 from contact tracing.
As of 7pm on May, 22,141 or 53% of the CNMI’s eligible population have been fully vaccinated. Of that number, 19,081 took the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, while 2,828 took Moderna Inc. A total of only 232 were jabbed by the single-dose Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccine. In addition, 21,251 have gotten the first doses of Pfizer/BioNTech and 3,720 of Moderna.
CHCC also reminded the community that walk-ins are welcome at all COVID-19 vaccination sites on Saipan—the Medical Care and Treatment Site at the Commonwealth Health Center and the Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe. MCATS hours are from Monday to Friday, 8am-6pm, and Saturdays, 8am-12pm. The Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center hours are from Monday to Friday, 8am-6pm, and Saturdays, 8am-4pm.
CHCC said transportation to and from vaccination sites are free and available by registering online at www.vaccinatecnmi.com, or calling 682-SHOT (7468).
Twelve- to 17-year-olds who complete their two-dose series will receive gift bags.
