1 more traveler tests positive for COVID-19

The Northern Marianas saw its number of COVID-19 cases go up to 176 yesterday after one more traveler tested positive for the coronavirus.
The individual was identified by travel screening and confirmed diagnosis through fifth-day testing last May 19. The affected individual did not report any COVID-19 vaccination.
The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. said the individual have been moved to the designated isolation area at the Kanoa Resort Alternate Care Site for close monitoring.
The CHCC Communicable Disease Investigation/Inspection team has already initiated contact tracing for the most immediate contacts of the new confirmed case, including passengers on the same flight.
So far, out of the 176 total COVID-19 cases in the CNMI, CHCC said 140 were identified by travel screening while 36 were local transmissions—11 from community-based tracing and 16 from contact tracing.
As of 7pm on May 18, the CNMI has fully vaccinated 52% of its eligible population. That’s a total of 21,648 who have been fully vaccinated and 24,327 getting their first jab. (Saipan Tribune)
