Cruz, Cabrera top multiple events

Saipan Southern High School’s Casey Cruz and Saipan International School’s Tiana Cabrera dominated multiple events in the girls 18U division of the 2021 PSS/McDonald’s All Schools Athletics Championships that concluded last weekend at the Oleai Track and Field.

Cruz and Cabrera each dominated two of 10 individual events with Cruz coming out victorious in the 400m and 100m, while Cabrera took gold medals in the 3,000m and 1,500m events.

During the 400m event, the Lady Manta Ray defeated foes with a time of 1:09:95 to gain her first gold medal, followed by Cabrera who finished at 1:12:36 to take home silver. Completing the Top 3 was Grace Christian Academy’s Soleil Lamar who came in third in less than a second, 1:12:99.

Later in the 100m event, Cruz edged out her competitors by less than a second and gained her second gold medal with a time of 13:50. Leani Acosta of Marianas High School took home the silver medal for the event with a time of 13:89 and completing the Top 3 a few seconds later was Erin Frink who came in at 14:21.

Meanwhile, Tiana Cabrera won the gold medal in the 3,000m run, coming out first with a time of 13:07, followed closely by Agape Christian School’s Emma Pang who recorded a time of 13:14. Rounding up the Top 3 was Pang’s schoolmate Eunice Xu who finished at 13:24.

She grabbed her second gold medal in the 1,500m after finishing first with a time of 5:46:3. Eunice Xu placed second in the event for submitting a time of 5:49:34, followed by Emma Pang who made the top three with a time of 6:07:25.

Also winning gold medals last weekend were Cheraline Epity from Tinian Jr./Sr. High School, Maria Rasa from Kagman High School, Soleil Lamar from GCA, Sally Wu and Eunice Wu from ACS, and Leani Acosta from MHS.

Epity took home the gold medal for the shotput event last weekend after recording a distance of 7.95m, followed by Kina Rangamar from MHS who made a throw of 7.50m. Taking third place was Angellyn Roligat from MHS who made a distance of 7.45m.

In the discus event, Rasa placed first after chucking the disc at a distance of 23.40m, followed by silver medal awardee Angellyn Roligat who recorded a distance of 20.50m. Completing the event’s Top 3 was Kina Rangamar who recorded a distance of 17.95m.

GCA’s Soleil Lamar prevailed in the javelin event, earning herself a gold medal with a distance of 22.31m. Angellyn Roligat took home the silver medal with a distance of 20.84m, followed closely by Maria Rasa who took home the bronze medal with a distance of 20.72m.

Sally Wu was victorious in the long jump with a distance of 4.63m, followed by Soleil Lamar who submitted a distance of 4.47m. Making the Top 3 was Leani Acosta who had recorded distance of 4.30m.

Fellow ACS-goer Eunice Xu topped the 800m race with a time of 2:51:32, followed by Tiana Cabrera who came in at 2:55:97. Completing the Top 3 was Emma Pang who finished at 3:05:06.

Leani Acosta landed first place in the 200m event with a time of 28:90, followed by Sally Wu who submitted a time of 29:22, and earning the Top 3 spot was Tinian’s Cheraline Epity who came in at 29:22.
