WIC sets new income eligibility guidelines
The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.’s CNMI Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children Program, more commonly known as WIC, announced new income eligibility guidelines yesterday.
WIC is available to the CNMI’s pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women; infants and children under the age of 5 who are at nutritional risk and who are at or below 185% of the federal poverty guidelines.
All WIC income eligibility guidelines are based on gross income—meaning before taxes or other deductions. A pregnant woman is considered two family members.
A person or certain family members who participate in other benefits programs—such as the Nutrition Assistance Program (food stamp or NAP) or Medicaid— automatically meet the income requirement.
To become a WIC client, call (670) 664-4084. For existing WIC clients who have an upcoming certification, it is important to maintain a working number to be reached at. If your number has changed, call WIC to update it.
Bring the following to your WIC appointment:
• Everyone who will be enrolling into the WIC Program
• Identification for adults (driver’s license, photo ID)
• Child’s identification (shot record, birth certificate, crib card)
• Proof of income (30 days of recent paystubs, Medicaid card, NAP card)
• Proof of address (mail from CUC, NAP card, map to residence)
WIC currently serves approximately 2,800 clients on Saipan, 135 on Tinian, and 126 on Rota.
