Tinian sweeps multiple boys 9U events

Tinian Elementary School swept a number of events in the boy 9U division during the 2021 PSS/McDonald’s All Schools Athletics Championships that concluded last Saturday.
Calen Borja and Jun Young Seo showed the way for Tinian Elementary School after topping four of the eight championship events altogether. Borja conquered the softball throw, the 200m event, and the 100m event, while Seo topped the 1,500m race.
Borja prevailed in the softball throw, earning a gold medal after submitting a distance of 30.65m. Placing second was Damian Sablan of William S. Reyes with a distance of 29.35m. Completing the Top 3 was Chad Palacios of Tinian with a distance of 26.4m.
Later in the 200m event, Borja outpaced the competition with a time of 33:74 to gain another gold medal. Coming in at a close second was schoolmate Jun Young Seo who finished at 34:07. Making Top 3 was Saipan International School’s Jude Rayphand who gained the bronze medal with a time of 34:41.
For the 100m event, Borja came out victorious with a time of 15:83, followed by Jude Rayphand who came in shortly at 16:33. Rayphand’s schoolmate, Quido Jambor, rounded up the Top 3 after recording a time of 16:79.
Jun Young Seo also brought honor to his school after taking first place in the 1,500m run with a time of 7:03. Coming in at a close second was SIS’ Quido Jambor who finished just a split second later at 7:04. Making the Top 3 was Andre Guerrero from Saipan Community School who came in at 7:25.
Also topping events last weekend were Jude Rayphand, who took home gold medals in the 800m and 400m course, Kagman Elementary School’s Jayton Dela Cruz who topped the 60m event, and Bradley Pinaula from Rota Elementary School who prevailed in the long jump event.
Rayphand bested foes with a time of 3:19 in the 800m to get a gold medal. Following him was Rota’s Bradley Pinaula who bagged the silver medal with a time of 3:27. Completing the Top 3 was Evan Poole from Brilliant Star School who finished at 3:32:03.
The 400m gold medal was awarded to Rayphand after finishing the course in 1:26. Landin Reyes from WSR took home the silver medal for the event with a time of 1:30 followed by schoolmate John Paul Binghit who came in 8 seconds later at 1:38.
Jayton Dela Cruz earned his gold medal in the 60m race after finishing with a time of 10:38, followed by silver medal awardee and fellow KES goer Jeffrey Pangelinan who came in at 10:63. Completing the top three was KES’ Tatum Jones who finished 10:81 to earn the bronze medal.
Rota’s Bradely Pinaula topped the long jump with a distance of 3.22, followed by schoolmate Storm Pimentel with a distance of 3.06. Earning the bronze medal for the event was KES’ Jayton Dela Cruz with a distance of 2.98.
Along with the boys 12U team, Brilliant Star School’s boys 9U team won the boys elementary division with an overall score of 136 followed by Saipan International School who placed second with a score of 100. Making the Top 3 in the boys division was TES with an overall score of 88 points.
