Wawa Atalig is first Ace of the season

Joshua “Wawa” Atalig was named the Marianas Golf Association first winner for the 2021-2022 season after topping ace of month tournament last May 1 at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort east course.
During the tournament last Saturday, Atalig, one of MGA’s 14-year-old junior golfers, defeated 45 other competitors after shooting a 38 in the front nine and a 45 in the back nine for a gross score of 83. Atalig, who sported a 26-handicap and a net score of 57, grabbed the first ace of the MGA 2021/2022 season.
James Benavente, Dung Tenorio and Roderick Zandueta tied for the second-lowest net score of the day with a 67, but Benavente edged out Tenorio and Zandueta on a scorecard playoff to bag second place, while Tenorio knocked out Zandueta to secure third place.
Also earning recognition that day were closest to the pin winners Mel Sablan who came closest in hole No. 4, Calvin Yamagishi in hole No. 6, Jay Muna in hole No. 11, and Justin Lowe who won the KP award for getting closest in hole No. 15.
Aside from recognition, all KP winners won $215 each.
The MGA had its May ace at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort east course with a total of 45 members and a guest joining the monthly ace. This ace is the start of the new MGA season for year 2021/2022. MGA’s golf season will run from May 2021 through April 2022.
MGA holds its monthly aces once a month circulating the four current golf courses and are always inviting interested golfers to join the MGA club. All interested participants need to do is reach out to a current MGA member for details.
New members must pay an annual fee of $40 and returning members must pay $30.
MGA welcomes its new MGA members, Bart Jackson, Darion Jones, Brian Camacho, Nate Camacho, Bill Camacho, Jay Muna, Zack Sasamoto, Justin Lowe, T.J. Dela Cruz, Martin Naputi, and Cameron Nicholas.
The association also gained three new female players who joined the May ace, namely Erlinda Naputi, Geri Dela Cruz, and Esther Muña who played as guests.
The Ace of Aces Championship was held simultaneously with the May ace but results have yet to be published.
