Navy awards $25M contract to support Marines in Guam

JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM—Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Pacific awarded a $25 million firm-fixed price contract last April 21 to Hensel Phelps Construction Co., of Honolulu, Hawaii, for the design and construction of a Combined Explosives Ordnance Disposal Compound at Marine Corps Base Guam. 

“The successful award of this project is the direct result of the collaborative efforts from our stakeholders which include: III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Activity Guam, 9th Engineer Support Battalion EOD, Marine Corps Base Hawaii EOD, Marine Force Pacific (MFP) Defense Policy Review Initiative, MFP C4IT, Resident Officer in Charge of Construction Finegayan, Guam Program Management Office, Naval Intelligence Warfare Center Hawaii, NAVFAC Marianas, Joint Region Marianas, NAVFAC Pacific Contracting and Design & Construction (DC), and RMAA-API Joint Venture,” said Mark Nakagawa, NAVFAC Pacific DC project manager.  

The compound will consist of a combined EOD building, organizational hazardous/flammable storage building, ready service lockers, trash enclosure, transformed enclosure, non-organizational vehicle parking, operational vehicle laydown area, and bicycle parking area.

“Our project team is motivated to support our Marines and their vital mission and we look forward to providing a world class, state of the art EOD Facility,” said Nakagawa. “Our design team exhibited excellent teamwork and resilience during challenging times of COVID-19 pandemic and I am humbled and appreciative of the opportunity to be a part of this dedicated and hardworking team.” 

Work will be performed in Finegayan, Guam, with an expected completion date of October 2023. (USN)
