Responding to the call under U.S. Public Law 110-229 for the transition of foreign workers, the CNMI Department of Labor has begun preparations for the next job fairs to be held on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.

In addition to this effort, the department from its last publication on Jan. 17, 2014, of 5,000-plus uncertified résumés, to date a total of 2,079 résumés have been certified with expected completion date of July 2014 for the remaining.

The department continues to push forward with its transformation initiatives, improvement of services to job-seeking individuals, referrals of status qualified participants to job openings that they are deemed qualified for, and consistent monitoring and compliance of CNMI labor laws.

The department appreciates employers for closely working with the respective CNMI DOL divisions and looks forward to stronger and increased employment opportunities for status qualified participants with all CNMI employers.

In consideration of high school students exiting for their summer break, the job fair for Saipan is tentatively planned for June 19-21, 2014, Tinian on July 18, 2014, and Rota on July 25, 2014. Any change in the job fair schedules the department will publish the information accordingly.

The department also encourages businesses to participate in the free OSHA On-Site Consultation Services for their workplace safety and health program. This program is funded under a Cooperative Agreement with the US DOL Occupational Safety and Health Administration Region 9 San Francisco. (PR)
