Man sentenced to a year for assault

A man who stabbed another man’s foot with a knife in a fit of jealousy pleaded guilty to one count of assault and battery and was sentenced to one year in prison.
Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth Govendo imposed a one-year sentence on Glaizer Tamayo Ticsay, all suspended except for five days of time served. In exchange for Ticsay’s guilty plea, the other charges against him were dismissed without prejudice, including assault with a dangerous weapon, disturbing the peace, and burglary.
In addition, Govendo sentenced Ticsay to two years of supervised probation and ordered him to pay a $120 probation fee for the duration of his probation, a $400 fine, and all other court costs and fees.
The court also ordered Ticsay to have no contact with the victim and witnesses in the case. Failure to comply would result in contempt of court.
According to court documents, the Department of Public Safety responded to an assault with a dangerous weapon report in Chalan Kanoa on Sept. 9, 2020.
The victim told police that he was in his room with his two friends, one of them Ticsay’s girlfriend, on Sept. 9, 2020, at around 10:26pm, when the defendant barged in and shouted profanities at him. The victim later told police that Ticsay was jealous of his friendship with his girlfriend.
Ticsay repoprtedly tried to punch the victim but the victim managed to block it before wrapping his arms around Ticsay’s head and neck. The defendant then pushed the victim away and pulled out a “knife” from his pocket and attempted to stab the victim. The victim told police that he covered his body and Ticsay hit the victim’s foot instead.
The victim’s other friend who was in the room at the time of the incident intervened and grabbed Ticsay from behind and held him back from attacking the victim again. The friend then yelled for help, prompting two neighbors to enter the room to stop the fight.
After the fight, the victim said he heard Ticsay say in Tagalog that he would be back. He added that he is scared for his life if Ticsay is released because he had received verbal threats from Ticsay.
