Small batch of stimulus checks out on Friday

The Department of Finance is releasing small batch of the third stimulus checks tomorrow, Friday, according to Finance Secretary David DLG. Atalig yesterday.

In response to Saipan Tribune’s request for an update, Atalig said that, according to the director of the Division of Revenue and Taxation, they are issuing those that have frozen accounts at banks. Atalig said other checks were reissued due to closed bank accounts and issues with their bank information so their direct deposits were rejected.

He said he is still trying to get information as to the total amount and number of taxpayers in that small batch.

“For those that we corrected or where taxpayers updated their information, we are releasing their stimulus,” the secretary said.

Atalig encourages taxpayers who have not gotten their paper checks yet to check their postal boxes soon. “Again, we do not have control of when the post office will deliver to their boxes and the Post Office usually say that it takes about a week to get through all mail, not just the stimulus,” he said.

Atalig earlier disclosed that the payments of stimulus to over 31,000 taxpayers, either via direct deposit or paper checks, went out as planned last Monday.

About 10,500 taxpayers opted to receive their stimulus payments via direct deposit. That’s for a total of about $26 million.

Atalig said over 21,000 stimulus checks, totaling about $40 million, were processed over the weekend and delivered to the post office.
