D&W Saipan Inc., which does business as Highway Express, recently donated 50 40-pound sacks of rice to the Ohala Foundation’s food bank on Tinian.
“Thank you to D&W general manager Mr. Sung Soo Lim for their donation. We’re extremely happy as this large donation of rice will go toward feeding hundreds of people,” said Ohala Foundation chair Phillip Mendiola-Long. “We’ve been able to distribute food boxes to over 300 unique families over the course of 11 distribution events. That comes out to over 10,000 meals given to families in need.”
The donation was coordinated by former Tinian mayor and lawyer Joey “JP” San Nicolas. “This is a fine example of our friends and families in Saipan helping our friends and families on Tinian,” said San Nicolas, who added that Tinian Shipping shipped the sacks of rice to Tinian.
The Ohala Foundation will launch a new “It’s Only .33 Cents Per Day Donation Drive,” which is equal to a commitment of just $10 per month to help feed families in need. “We need 200 people to sign up and commit to just .33 cents per day to help these families on Tinian. We’re also in the planning stages to expand to Rota by May and Saipan by October,” Long said.
