RB Camacho to run anew for Saipan mayor
Board of Parole chair Ramon Blas “RB” Camacho disclosed yesterday that he wants to run again for Saipan mayor in the November 2022 general elections.
Camacho, 62, said in a telephone interview that if the Democratic Party will not endorse his candidacy, he will run as an independent.
“I’m not running for the mayor’s salary but to promote safety and a healthy community,” he said. If elected, he wants to make the community involved in these programs.
Among his priorities are to create a Neighborhood Watch against criminality and an Adopt-a-Place program not only on the highways but also in villages. Camacho said he will clean and beautify the island. He said he will put up an award incentive program such as the cleanest village and fewest crime village, among other recognitions.
Camacho has been chairman of the Board of Parole for 17 years now. He also has been as chairman of the Farm Service Agency CNMI Committee for nine years now.
He retired in 2002 as assistant chief of police with the Department of Public Safety. He is a former member of the Saipan Municipal Council.
Next year’s elections will be Camacho’s third run for Saipan mayor.
In 2014, Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang won against three other mayoral candidates. Camacho was the second highest vote-getter.
In 2018, Apatang was re-elected after he defeated Camacho. It’s Apatang second and last term.
Rep. Joseph Lee Pan Tenorio Guerrero (R-Saipan) confirmed Tuesday that he is also gunning to be the next Saipan mayor.
