A woman, who was arrested for allegedly threatening a man with a box cutter, has pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon at a change of plea hearing before Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo last March 26.

Yaping She was charged with assault, assault with a dangerous weapon, and disturbing the peace, but the assault and disturbing the peace charges were later dropped as part of the plea deal.

Govendo sentenced She to 10 years’ imprisonment, all suspended except for 180 days, with 156 days for time served. That leaves her with just 24 more days to serve in prison. She will be placed on supervised probation for two years upon her release.

She was also ordered to pay court cost in the amount of $100 and probation fee in the amount of $240 before her probation expires. She was ordered to report to the Office of Adult Probation on April 22, 2021.

According to Saipan Tribune archives, the victim was outside a massage parlor in October 2020 when he saw She walking toward him. The victim said She, who was holding a yellow box cutter in her right hand, told him that she was going to cut him. He said She then lunged with the box cutter in his direction multiple times. The victim said She also pulled her mask down and threatened to spit on him. Two responding police officers repeatedly told She to drop the box cutter. Police said the defendant turned toward the officers and started cussing at them. One of the officers then drew his firearm, but pointed it at the ground, and instructed her again to put the box cutter down. When she finally did, She was arrested.
