Near-drowning ends in death

The Korean woman who nearly drowned last Thursday, March 25, passed away last Sunday morning after three days of unconsciousness at the Intensive Care Unit of the Commonwealth Health Center.

It was learned that a memorial service was supposed to be held at the Korean Community Center in San Antonio at 6pm last night.

It was learned that the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel rushed the Korean woman to the hospital last Thursday morning after she was found by other swimmers face down in the water near the World War II tank at the Guma Sakman beach in Susupe.

When Saipan Tribune tried to follow up on this incident at CHC last Thursday at 8pm, it was learned that the woman was still in the ICU but reportedly with no brain activity.

Last Thursday, Department of Public Safety public information officer Dre Pangelinan said the woman, 56, had a pulse when she was rushed to the hospital.

It was not immediately learned why DPS has not issued any official statement or report about the incident four days after.
