23 complete NMIFA Grassroots course

A total of 23 individuals successfully completed the Northern Marianas Islands Football Association’s Grassroots Kids Leader Course for the Spring 2021 Season last week.
The one-day course was held at the NMI Soccer Training Center with course instructors Jershwin Angeles, Angie Ito, Irish Pagarao, and technical director Michiteru Mita.
The course aims to further hone the skills of youth players, especially those who are being groomed to play for the CNMI national squads.
The participants were Kanoa Football Club’s Ian Lubao, Daniell Pablo, Leilani Pangelinan, Melanie Santos, Edward Calvo, Matansa Football Club’s Tawny Barcinas, Jace Pineda, and Hojin Woo, MP United’s Tomoko Bogdan, Shawna Brennfleck, Gene Weaver, Whit Altizer, Paire’s Ivan Ilmov, Miles Borja, Patty Coleman, TaAnn Kabua-Demapan, and Zhi Peng Lin, TanHoldings’ John Guiller Canape, Reginald Pascual, and Southern United’s Joannah Carreon, Amzad Khan, Gabi Race, and Weiping Chen.

During the course, participants discussed basic soccer knowledge needed to develop a player at the grassroots level.
The coaches also took part in an outdoor practical session where instructors introduced a basic training plan that participants may use as a reference in the future.
According to NMIFA, the skills, techniques, and understanding taught during the course must be acquired incrementally from a younger age.
At U14, CNMI players often lag behind as compared to other national players across the East Asian Football Federation. Through the course, NMIFA aims to provide these essential skills and knowledge at a younger age, added the CNMI’s soccer body.
