Padyakan Sa Saipan ’21 postponed

Emon Masonic Lodge No. 179 has decided to postpone the 2021 Padyakan Sa Saipan cycling event that was scheduled for this Sunday, March 20, as a result of the current community cluster of COVID-19 positive cases in the CNMI.
According to Danny Bañez, event coordinator, he proposed the postponement, that was unanimously agreed upon by organizing committee members, because of the risk local transmissions posed to the community.
He said the priority is the safety of not just the participants but also the entire community and he felt it would be safer to push the event back until the community transmission clears up.
Bañez said the event will be pushed back to April 18, a month from the original date, to give the Governor’s COVID-19 Task Force ample time to control the spread of the virus.
Registration for the event will also continue until April 18 or until all the slots have been filled.
To date, the event has attracted a total of 49 registrants and will continue to accept registrations until the day before the event.
The registration fee of $50 includes a cycling jersey and a ticket to the dinner banquet. Interested cyclists may sign up online at www.strava.com/clubs/699161. Kit packets will also be available at the Rendezvous Restaurant located on the second floor of Saipan Vegas along Middle Road.
The event will feature a 20-kilometer course and a 60-kilometer course. Age categories include 19-and-under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-and-up, and open.
The 20-km course stretches from Banzai Cliff to Seafix and is geared toward beginners and are strictly for those who have not participated in any bike races.
The 60-km course will encompass three laps from Banzai Cliff to Seafix and is open to all groups interested.
The Emon Masonic Lodge will award the Top 3 winners with medals and other prizes during the awards ceremony after the race at Banzai Cliff.
